Dave Meltzer has given his thoughts on the action from the NXT Great American Bash.
The Great American Bash took place on July 30th and was headlined by the NXT Championship match between champion Carmelo Hayes and Ilja Dragunov. While it was Hayes who retained his title he was pushed all of the way by Dragunov who forced him to dig deeper than ever before in a tremendously hard-hitting clash.
Elsewhere there was a great deal of intrigue around the in-ring debut of Gable Steveson as he took on Baron Corbin. However, that intrigue quickly turned to annoyance for those in attendance with the Olympic gold medalist being booed throughout as fans chanted for Corbin despite him being a heel. To add to the frustration the match ended in a double count-out.
The only championship to change hands was the Tag Team Titles with Tony D’Angelo and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo defeating Wolfgang and Mark Coffey.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has shared his ratings for the seven matches on the card. The main event scored highest, while Steveson vs. Corbin was given just one and a half stars.
