Dave Meltzer Blasts AEW & WWE “Tribal Weirdos”

Dave Meltzer

Dave Meltzer has hit out at the “weirdness” around AEW going up against NXT.

On October 10th, AEW Dynamite will go head-to-head with NXT thanks to the MLB Playoffs airing in its usual timeslot on Wednesday. In response, on the latest episode of NXT, it was announced that John Cena, Paul Heyman, Cody Rhodes, and Asuka will all be featured on the show, while Becky Lynch will likely be involved too as NXT Women’s Champion.

For their part, AEW has stacked Dynamite with a number of title matches, and a card including a number of the promotion’s biggest names.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer questioned the strange tribal nature of some fans, pointing out that AEW didn’t ask for Dynamite to be moved.

“Oh, man, people are just like really weird about this Tuesday thing. You know, because they’re going head to head and people are, you know. I mean, it’s the tribal weirdos, but I mean, it’s like, you know, WWE is not trying to compete with them at all. They’re just trying to get a better television rights deal. And just all kinds of just weirdness and AEW started it, they’re moving, you know, they’re moving on to NXT’s night.

And it’s like, there’s a frickin baseball playoff game, AEW didn’t want to move there, to go there. But whatever, it’s head to head it’s good for the you know, it’s good for viewers, both companies are sending out big, big shows. So the viewers win, and there’s nothing wrong with the competition. The competition is fine. It’s not like anyone’s cheating, you know, they’re trying to win a night and that’s, that’s fine. And both are going [hard] you know, I mean, they’re loading up the shows. So that’s a good thing.”

Dave Meltzer Thinks NXT Will Have The Advantage

During the conversation, Meltzer added that he expects NXT to emerge as the winner on the night, at least in part due to Dynamite being on a different night. He went on to give credit to AEW for the level of promotion they’ve done to inform fans of the move.
