2022 has been a big year for wrestlers-turned-actors. Dwayne Johnson has continued to cement his spot as the biggest action movie star in the world, John Cena starred in the Peacemaker and Batista is earning acclaim for his role in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
While Johnson in particular has tended to stick to something of a formula when it comes to his acting career, Batista has often taken a very different path. This has seen him become an integral part of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, and be widely praised for his most recent role as Duke Cody in the Glass Onion.
Batista Has Surpassed Likes Of Dwayne Johnson And John Cen1
Speaking in a new interview with The Atlantic, Glass Onion director Rian Johnson was asked who had surprised him most while filming the project.
“Dave Bautista. When I was writing [his character, a men’s-rights streamer named Duke Cody], I was picturing a scrawny dude who’s trying to overcompensate. When Bautista was brought up, I was instantly so smitten by the idea. I’ve been a very big fan of his dramatic chops as an actor.”
When it was put to Johnson that Batista was the greatest wrestler-turned-actor ever, the filmmaker readily agreed.
“I absolutely 100 percent agree. And I think somebody like [Paul Thomas Anderson] is going to give him a real part and is gonna look like a genius. As a person, Bautista is genuinely, immediately vulnerable when you meet him, and that’s what I was excited about. This is someone who has the physical trappings of someone who would play it big, but he actually brings sensitivity to the role.”
John Cena will be back in action with WWE on the December 30th edition of SmackDown when he teams with Kevin Owens to take on Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn. It is also believed that Cena will feature at WrestleMania. Although there has been speculation that Dwayne Johnson will appear at the spectacular he still isn’t “locked in.”
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is currently available on Netflix.
