Former WWE Superstar Fred Rosser – formerly known as Darren Young – has revealed that he was denied an opportunity to appear for AEW…twice!
The former WWE Tag Team Champion took to Twitter yesterday to reveal that the reason he has never appeared for AEW is that the promotion knocked him back. Twice.
“I get asked a lot why not AEW? Well, I tried and I was told NOPE…NOT [once] but [twice]… besides AEW wasn’t my end goal it’s always been NJPW. No matter what, don’t ever get overwhelmed and decide to throw in the towel. I’ve still got a lot of work to do!”
On August 27, 2020, it was announced that Fred Rosser signed a contract with New Japan ProWrestling and made his debut the following week.
The former Darren Young was signed to WWE in 2009, debuting on the first episode of NXT in 2010 with CM Punk as his mentor. Following NXT, Rosser joined the Nexus faction and later in 2012 he found his biggest success teaming with Titus O’Neil, forming The Prime Time Players.
The Prime Time Players won the WWE Tag Team Championships in 2015 and the team split shortly after losing the titles. Rosser was then paired with WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund in 2016 with the goal to ‘Make Darren Young Great Again’. The pairing was short-lived and Rosser was released from WWE in October 2017.
