Dark Order Star Wasn’t Set For Contract Renewal Before “Internal Uproar”

AEW Dark Order

One popular Dark Order star reportedly wouldn’t have had their AEW contract renewed without support from those backstage.

The Dark Order has been fraught with change as of late, with both Stu Grayson and Alan Angels exiting the company after their contracts were not renewed this year.

Now, a new report from Fightful Select reveals that another of its members was set to be on the chopping block before talent spoke up in protest.

According to the report, Colt Cabana is still signed to All Elite Wrestling, but that wasn’t always the plan. Dating back to March, Fightful heard rumors that the star’s contract wasn’t set to be renewed, and numerous talent also heard that he wasn’t going to be re-signed.

Initially, there seemed to be a belief that Cabana’s tense (or nonexistent) relationship with AEW Champion CM Punk might be the reason for this, but in the wake of Stu Grayson and Alan Angels existing the company, some of those assumptions have changed.

Colt Cabana is reportedly very popular backstage from both his work before and during his tenure in AEW, and there was said to be some “internal uproar” that he wasn’t going to be re-signed. Many talent made their displeasure known and spoke up in defense when they heard about his contract status. Since that time, he performed on the ROH Supercard show.

Despite his contract being renewed and him remaining on the AEW roster page, Fightful reports that he is rarely at AEW television, and he did not appear on the most recent episode of Dynamite during the segment in which QT Marshall called out -1 (Brodie Lee, Jr.). Since April, it’s believed by most that he’s signed as part of the ROH brand.
