Darby Allin suffered an injury at AEW Dynamite: Big Business which will unfortunately delay some major upcoming plans.
Following his victory alongside Sting at AEW Revolution in the latter’s retirement match, Allin confirmed at the post-show press conference that he would be taking a leave of absence from AEW to attempt to climb Mount Everest. Allin first revealed his plans to conquer the world’s tallest mountain almost a year ago.
In what would have been his last match before attempting the climb, the 31-year-old faced off against Jay White at AEW Dynamite: Big Business this past Wednesday, Unfortunately, as first reported by TMZ and later confirmed by the AEW star himself, Allin broke one of his feet mere minutes into the match.
The injury occurred when Allin performed a front flip dive off the top rope onto White, who was standing at ringside, around two minutes in. While the dive itself went off without a hitch, Allin landed awkwardly on his feet which led to a breakage in his left foot.
Despite the injury, the two went on to wrestle for another 10 minutes with White coming out victorious after hitting the Blade Runner. Afterwards, White’s faction Bullet Club Gold broke Allin’s ankle in kayfabe, seemingly writing him off of programming for the foreseeable future.
At the time of writing, there are no details on the severity of Allin’s injury nor how long he’s expected to be out of action. What is known, however, is that his Mount Everest attempt will be delayed until 2025 as a result of the injury.
Darby Allin Required 12 Stitches After Terrifying AEW Revolution Dive
This isn’t the first injury Darby Allin has suffered this month. During Sting‘s Retirement Match at AEW Revolution, Allin performed a death-defying spot where he dove from the top of a ladder and fell through a legitimate pane of glass at ringside.
The terrifying spot caused Allin’s back to bleed profusely for the rest of the match and required medical attention afterwards. As reported by Bryan Alvarez the next day, Allin remarkably only required 12 stitches after the gruesome spot.
