Despite making his shock return on AEW Dynamite, Darby Allin may not make it to Double or Nothing.
The last time Allin was seen on TV, the former TNT Champion competed at the Big Business special back in March. Attacked after his match with Jay White, the injury angle was set to write Allin off TV so he could climb Mount Everest. Unfortunately, Allin broke his foot in the match and was unable to undertake his expedition in 2024 and has postponed it until the following year.
As a result of the broken foot and being hit by a bus while he was out injured, Allin was not expected back for some time. However, following the main event of the May 15th episode of Dynamite, Darby Allin made his surprise return and was revealed to be the replacement for Eddie Kingston in the Anarchy in the Arena match as Kingston suffered a serious injury at the NJPW Resurgence pay-per-view.
Hiding under the ring before making the save, Allin noted in a promo after the show went off the air that he got hit by a support beam when Dax Harwood hit the superplex onto Kazuchika Okada. Disorientated in his promo, Allin stated that he was going to go to the hospital and told fans to stick around as there was more action to come. Harwood quickly corrected Allin and informed the fans that there was no additional action set to take place on the show. Allin also stated that he was “not 100%” in the post-show promo.
Potentially suffering a concussion as he was hit in the head while under the ring, Allin may not be a part of the chaotic Anarchy in the Arena match in Las Vegas on May 26th despite just making his return.
Darby Allin In Doubt
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed the angle and both expressed their concerns and doubts over Darby Allin being a part of the match:
Dave Meltzer: “If he’s not ready he sure as hell shouldn’t be in this Anarchy in the Arena match.”
Bryan Alvarez: “I don’t think he should be doing this match.”
Dave Meltzer: “If he’s limping still and he’s not healed, he shouldn’t be doing this match. If he got a concussion then he sure as hell shouldn’t be doing anything until he’s cleared, which I’m sure if he does have a concussion, that they won’t let him do it at that point if he’s not cleared. I mean, people come back from concussions, everyone’s different. That could be a week, it could be six months.”
In a separate interview, Bryan Danielson also admitted he was not 100%,
