Will Ospreay Eyes First-Time Match Against IWGP Champion at Forbidden Door

Will Ospreay Hoping To See Historic Match At AEW Forbidden Door

With the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view just around the corner, Will Ospreay has fans buzzing after hinting at a dream match that’s never happened—until now.

During a recent appearance on Superstar Crossover with Josh Martinez, the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion teased a showdown with none other than current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto.

Despite their deep history in New Japan Pro Wrestling, the two have never actually faced off in singles action.

“Strangely, the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion right now, Goto. We never wrestled one another,” Ospreay said. “Look, Forbidden Door’s coming up. So, we can do it now.”

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. With Forbidden Door set for August 24, 2025, in London, Ospreay could be poised for a home-country clash that would mark a significant moment in both his career and the NJPW-AEW collaboration.

Ospreay has been on a tear since joining AEW full-time in 2024, and a win at Double or Nothing against Adam Page could put him in line for the AEW World Championship. But with Goto in his sights, the “Aerial Assassin” may have unfinished business to handle first.

Kevin Owens Shares Emotional Neck Injury Update, Randy Orton Steps In With Support

Kevin Owens Admits He Wasn't Sure Triple H's Unique Idea Would Work

Kevin Owens has broken his silence on the neck injury that forced him out of WrestleMania 41 and temporarily halted his in-ring career. In a candid video shared on X (Twitter), the former Universal Champion addressed fan speculation and cleared the air on his condition:

“I haven’t had surgery yet… We’re still gonna try to figure out what the best way to go about it all is. There’s a lot of uncertainty.” [h/t Fightful]

Owens emphasized that while a procedure is likely, there’s no date set, and doctors are still determining the exact course of action. His last match took place at Elimination Chamber 2025 against longtime friend Sami Zayn.

Adding a layer of real-life support, fellow WWE star Randy Orton—who Owens was originally set to face at Mania—spoke to Complex about Owens’ situation.

Orton not only sympathized with Owens’ struggle but also arranged for him to receive a second opinion from the surgeon who treated Orton during his own recovery.

Orton told Raj Prashad of Complex:

“Even more than a physical journey, it’s a mental one… I hate that he’s gotta go through that,”

JBL Shuts Down Rumors Triple H Is Burying Cody Rhodes

Triple H Once Again Calls Out Critical WWE Fans With Expletive Address

WWE Hall of Famer JBL has firmly rejected claims that Triple H and WWE creative are trying to bury Cody Rhodes.

Following his WrestleMania 41 loss to John Cena—with an assist from Travis Scott—Rhodes has been off TV, sparking speculation among fans.

Speaking on his Something to Wrestle With podcast, JBL dismissed the narrative, saying,

“Cody’s going to be fine. He spearheaded the most profitable era in wrestling history. They’re not burying nothing for that cash cow.” [h/t WrestlingNewsCo]

JBL emphasized that cycling stars in and out is part of long-term storytelling, drawing a parallel to similar criticisms made during Daniel Bryan’s rise.

Rhodes was rumored to return on the May 16 episode of SmackDown, but the appearance didn’t materialize—leaving fans eagerly anticipating The American Nightmare’s next move.
