Darby Allin does not agree with Ric Flair.
Fans watching a match involving Allin know that they are not going to get a methodical, technical classic. With high-impact moves, insane dives and landings that make most people uneasy, Allin’s fast-paced matches are a frequent highlight of AEW TV. However, not everyone agrees with Allin’s disregard for his own safety.
At just 31 years old, Allin still has a lot of his life ahead of him and many more years in the ring. Some have expressed concerns, noting that the former TNT Champion needs to be more careful and slow the pace down if he wants a high quality of life when his in-ring career comes to an end. Ever the rebel, Allin has no intention of changing.
Speaking with Rock 106.1, Allin recalled being told by The Nature Boy that he was being more reckless than Mick Foley ever was and was told to slow it down. Despite many concerns, Allin won’t change:
“Ric Flair, a couple weeks ago, he came up to me and is like, ‘Darby, you need to slow down.’ I’m like, ‘Wait, what?’ ‘You’re crazier than Mick Foley.’ I’m like, ‘Getting advice from Ric Flair?’ What’s funny is, people don’t know how great I feel physically. I feel amazing, like nothing hurts. DDP also, he’s like, ‘We have to put you in a lab. They have to test you out and see what’s going on because you’re not human.’ I feel amazing. I won’t stop doing it. Sorry for anybody trying to give me advice, all the people out there telling me to slow down. I can’t and I won’t,”
Darby Allin Narrowly Escapes Injury
The latest in a series of bad landings took place in a match on Dynamite where Allin teamed with Sting to face Konosuke Takeshita and Powerhouse Hobbs. One spot in the match saw the former TNT Champion thrown across the ring and his neck landed on the bottom rope. In an interview after the match, Darby Allin admitted that he was very close to suffering a serious injury.
In a separate interview, Darby Allin revealed that he has 2 major goals in 2024.
