AEW star Daniel Garcia has opened up on what it felt like for Westside Gunn to perform him to the ring on the latest edition of Dynamite.
The September 7th edition of Dynamite was one of the biggest events in Daniel Garcia’s career. Not only did the Buffalo native defeat Wheeler Yuta to become the new ROH Pure Champion in his home town, but wrestling fan and rap star Westside Gunn performed live while he made his entrance.
In an interview with Pitchfork the day after the show, Daniel Garcia said he was still on a high from the whole experience.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this high. Like I’m a stoner and I’ve never even been that high. Bro I’m still high. I can’t believe it still.”
“It definitely felt like the most Buffalo thing ever. Buffalo is a city where everyone takes pride in everything,” Garcia said. “Buffalo could have the world’s fastest knitter, and we would ride for them like they were the world heavyweight champion of MMA.”
Westside Gunn was also part of the interview and described Garcia as a good friend of his before praising the young star.
“Danny, man, that’s a good friend of mine, man. He’s a Buffalo kid, and he’s actually the best. He’s already being challenged by the best and can only go up from here. I think he’s gonna be a world champion soon. I’m all for DG, man, I’m team DG.”
Garcia then revealed that it has always been one of his goals in wrestling to have Gunn playing him out in Buffalo.
“Since I became a wrestler, I always thought to myself if I ever do a big show in Buffalo, I want Westside Gunn to play me out.”
For his part, Westside Gunn wanted the same thing and said it was just a matter of timing.
“I’ve been there since day one and that was always a dream of mine—just being a part of it. And it’s all about timing. I could’ve had the opportunity sooner, who knows, but it happening in Buffalo for Danny and him winning the belt? That’s the story. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
Daniel Garcia is currently a member of the Jericho Appreciation Society. However, in recent weeks he has been courted by Bryan Danielson of the Blackpool Combat Club.
After Garcia won the ROH Pure Championship from the BCC’s Yuta, it was Danielson who came to the ring and put the belt around his waist, much to the shock of Jericho.
Following the show, Garcia indicated his own dismay at Jericho not accompanying him to the ring for his big match, implying that the tension in the JAS might reach a tipping point soon.
