In a new interview, the number one contender for the WWE universal Championship, Daniel Bryan, has picked a surprise name as his dream WWE opponent.
Speaking to Bleacher Report Daniel Bryan spoke candidly about everything from fatherhood to his decision to try and return to the ring following is retirement in 2016.
In previous interviews Bryan has been open about his desire to eventually transition into a more part-time role, something which has in turn sparked conversations about who he would like to face before he starts to move away from in-ring competition.
Bryan revealed that there are numerous people that he would like to work with, but there is one name that stands out, and it might not be one that fans would expect, Gran Metalik.
“There are people whom I think are fantastic and want to wrestle, and it’s hard to not mention the other people,” he said. “There’s this dream match that I’ve always had and people will look at me and say, ‘What?’ But that’s only because they haven’t seen him wrestle in Mexico, and that’s Gran Metalik. That guy’s awesome.”
The former WWE Champion and leader of the Yes! movement went on to name Ricochet, Matt Riddle and Keith Lee as performers he would also like to face.
“In the Rumble, I was so stoked to get into it with Matt Riddle and to get into it with Ricochet,” Bryan said. “I was a little bummed Keith Lee wasn’t in the match because I’d love to get into it with Keith Lee and that sort of thing. What you don’t know is who’s going to break through. I thought for a second last year that Angel Garza was going to break through. It felt like he had a lot of momentum and all that kind of stuff, and sometimes things just don’t work out. But I think it will be interesting to see once we start getting live crowds who’s really breaking through with the fans.”
However, before Bryan can turn his attention to dream matches, he is set to face Roman Reigns at WWE Fastlane for the WWE Universal Championship.
The rivalry has escalated between the two in recent weeks after Reigns defeated Bryan at Elimination Chamber, albeit after the challenger had already been through a gruelling Elimination Chamber match.
On the March 19th episode of SmackDown, Edge and Jey Uso squared off to determine who will be the Special Enforcer in the title match at Fastlane. After a back and forth contest where it looked like either man was seconds from victory, Edge eventually managed to hit the spear and pick up the win. The match marked Edge’s first in-ring action on the blue brand in ten years.
