Daniel Bryan Earns Universal Championship Match At Fastlane

Daniel Bryan has earned a Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns at Fastlane after defeating Jey Uso inside a Steel Cage on the March 5th edition of SmackDown!

Bryan and Uso came face-to-face for the second week in a row after the two went to a double count-out on February 26th, this time inside a Steel Cage! Both men would take full advantage of the stipulation, driving each other into the cage wall several times. Ultimately, however, Bryan would pick up the win by hitting a top rope butterfly suplex on Uso before applying the Yes Lock – causing the Uso brother to submit.

Roman Reigns would look on from ringside with a disappointed look on his face, having warned Jey earlier in the night that a loss would bring embarrassment to both himself and his family as a whole. With the confirmation of this championship challenge, the supposedly planned tag team bout of Edge & Daniel Bryan vs Roman Reigns & Jey Uso has now been scrapped – with the possibility of Edge vs Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania now very real.

This announcement of the match marks the second time Reigns and Bryan have faced off at a Fastlane pay-per-view. The two also did battle back in 2015 with the winner going on to challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31. Reigns would come out victorious, countering Bryan’s second attempt at the Running Knee into the Spear and pinning the ‘Leader of the Yes Movement’ for the three-count.
