WWE United States Champion Damian Priest has recalled a touching encounter with WWE Hall Of Famer Goldberg after a big moment in Priest’s career.
At SummerSlam, The Archer Of Infamy sealed an impressive win against Sheamus and captured his first gold as part of the WWE main roster as he won the US Title. It marks a remarkable rise for Priest after he debuted on the main roster in the men’s Royal Rumble in January before being part of one of the highest-profile matches at WrestleMania 37 as he teamed with rap superstar Bad Bunny to defeat The Miz and John Morrison.
Speaking to Vicente Beltrán of ViBe & Wrestling, Priest was asked about the current legends populating the WWE locker room such as Goldberg and John Cena. Priest says that most are quite private but recalled his emotional encounter with the former WCW Champion Goldberg after he won his US Title:
“Actually, most of them are private but not in a negative way. For example, Goldberg, the last time I saw him he came to greet me when I won the championship, and before his match, he gave me a hug and congratulated me, he told me that he was happy for me and all that and we did not know each other. Those things have a lot of value because a legend like Goldberg doesn’t have to say a word to me. What does it mean for him? Nothing and for me, it is a world.”
According to Damian Priest, Goldberg wasn’t the only WWE Hall Of Famer on hand to offer his congratulations:
“Edge also congratulated me and gave me a hug and told me that he was happy for me. They are people that I saw on TV when I was young, and now I have them there, and they give me advice and help me, and it is incredible for me. I don’t know how I got to this place, but I am very happy to be able to share conversations with these legends.”
