Damian Priest Suffers First Singles Pinfall Loss Since Joining The Main Roster

Damian Priest’s streak of not being pinned or submitted in singles action on the WWE main roster has come to an end.

WWE United States Champion has a commanding record in WWE, having never been pinned or submitted in singles action until the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw.

After spending two years in NXT and becoming the NXT North American Champion, Priest made his way onto the main roster by joining the Raw brand following the 2021 Royal Rumble, where he debuted as a surprise entrant.

Priest formed an alliance with hip hop star Bad Bunny the night after the Royal Rumble, and he and Bad Bunny would go on to defeat The Miz and John Morrison on night one of WrestleMania.

After continuing his feud with The Miz and John Morrison for some time, including an infamous match with The Miz that featured zombies, Priest took some time off to heal from an injury. Upon his return, he saved Humberto Carrillo from United States Champion Sheamus and began feuding over the illustrious title. Damian Priest successfully pinned Sheamus at SummerSlam to capture the United States Championship.

During his entire time on the main roster, Damian Priest had never been pinned or submitted in singles action. He has been on the losing end of several multi-man or tag team matches, and he has two singles losses by disqualification.

One of these losses took place on the Kickoff Show for Survivor Series when he lost by disqualification to Shinsuke Nakamura in a title match, and he also lost to Dolph Ziggler by disqualification on the December 20th episode of Monday Night Raw, earning Ziggler a United States Championship opportunity.

On the January 17th episode of Monday Night Raw, Damian Priest faced Kevin Owens in non-title action following a Seth Rollins appearance on the Kevin Owens show. Priest warned that Owens wouldn’t want to “release the Damian in him,” alluding to Priest’s dark new persona.

Near the end of the match, Kevin Owens feigned a knee injury and had the referee check on him in the corner. However, the injury proved to be a ruse and Owens was able to hit a stunner on the United States Champion, pinning him in the middle of the ring.

It remains to be seen whether Kevin Owens will receive a championship opportunity against Damian Priest, but both men have entered themselves into the 2022 Royal Rumble. For a complete list of Royal Rumble participants, click here.
