Bad Bunny first appeared in WWE in January 2021 at the Royal Rumble where he performed his hit song Booker T alongside the WWE Hall of Famer. Over the next few weeks he engaged in a feud with The Miz and became aligned with Damian Priest. This led to a match at WrestleMania 37 where Bad Bunny teamed with Priest to take on The Miz and John Morrison.
In a video posted to WWE’s TikTok account, Damian Priest spoke to Sheamus and recalled finding out he’d be teaming with the Puerto Rican rapper but thinking WWE had come up with another rabbit-based character when they first approached him with the idea.
“I remember when they asked me and they’re like, ‘So we’re going to pair you with Bad Bunny.’ And in my head I was like, you named a wrestler Bad Bunny?”
Continuing, Priest revealed that it was Triple H who had to explain that he was teaming with the hip hop megastar and not anyone related to Adam Rose’s former tag team partner.
“And then Hunter was like, ‘No, like the artist Bad Bunny!’ I was like ‘Oh, yeah, that makes sense.'”
Bad Bunny Thinks Fondly About His WrestleMania Match With Damian Priest
During a November 2021 interview with Allure, Bad Bunny spoke about what the opportunity to perform inside a WWE ring meant to him, first detailing his lifelong wrestling fandom.
“I had the Lucha libre [action figures], but I also had my own character for when my brother and I wrestled on our parents’ bed,” Bunny recalls. “I had my entrance music and outfit — a jacket that I took from my dad and underwear that we painted and decorated. We’d play that for hours.”
“Truly, wrestling has influenced me a lot, and I’ve applied that to my career. The style, the importance of having a trademark move or phrase or look, and always remembering the element of surprise. In wrestling, the fans love getting caught off guard. I like to create that same emotion with my music.”
Continuing, the rapper said that while he rarely revisits his musical performances after the fact, he often replays his WrestleMania match back.
“It was like I died and went to heaven. I’ve never sat to watch a recording of one of my concerts. Never. But my wrestling fight — I’ve watched it a hundred times. For like a week, I would go to bed watching it.”
Back in September, Triple H confirmed that he’s scheduled a talk with the former 24/7 Champion about a potential return to WWE.
