Drew McIntyre made history at WrestleMania 40…but not as he had originally intended.
Night two of WrestleMania 40 kicked off with Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre‘s highly anticipated WWE World Heavyweight Championship match.
Despite both men putting everything on the line it was ultimately Senor Money in the Bank who had the last laugh.
Drew McIntyre defeated Seth Rollins after a barrage of Claymore Kicks but ‘The Scottish Warrior’ may have written his own final chapter as he celebrated in the face of CM Punk much to ‘The Second City Saint’s’ disapproval.
Eventually it all became too much for Punk who blindsided McIntyre laying him out with his biometric cast…just when the WWE Universe thought it was all over Damian Priest made a shock arrival, cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase and cutting McIntyre’s championship reign short at under five minutes.
With this, McIntyre now possesses the unfortunate record of shortest reign at WWE World Heavyweight Champion, a moniker he is likely to blame CM Punk for.
Damian Priest had previously held the Money in the Bank briefcase for a whopping 282 days with many fans criticising his failure to cash in previously despite Seth Rollins persistent injury issues.
Priest was joined by his Judgment Day stablemates, Rhea Ripley, Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio, as they celebrated the Puerto Rican star’s monumental victory as CM Punk laughed on.
Where Is Damian Priest From?
WWE’s new World Champion hails from New York via Dorado, Puerto Rico, he made his WWE debut in 2018 but in a truly circular moment his on-screen debut actually came back in 2014 at WWE’s Money in the Bank PPV where he appeared as a security guard alongside Stephanie McMahon.
