Dakota Kai revealed that Triple H personally asked about her whereabouts during a pitch meeting with Bayley.
Former NXT star Dakota Kai made a shocking return in July at SummerSlam. The New Zealand superstar aligned herself with Bayley and IYO SKY (formerly Io Shirai) to form the group known as Damage CTRL. Kai would later capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships with Iyo Sky on Monday Night Raw.
During her appearance on Ryan Satin’s Out of Character podcast, Kai revealed that Bayley texted her the Thursday before SummerSlam about her “last-ditch attempt” at forming an onscreen stable.
“It’s very strange because, obviously, I wasn’t taking bookings, I was just chilling doing my streaming thing. Bayley texts me on Thursday [before SummerSlam] and was just out of the blue. I mean, we talk. We text a lot, but this question was out of the blue, and she’s like, ‘Hey, out of curiosity, are you talking to anyone right now in terms of companies or anything like that?’ And I said, ‘Well, kind of, but why do you ask? Like, what is this question?'”
The former SmackDown Women’s Champion had been preparing to form a stable during her time away due to injury and pitched the idea to Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque. The Chief Content Officer had just taken over the creative reigns from Vince McMahon when he asked, “What’s Dakota doing?”
Bayley showed Dakota Kai a screenshot of Triple H’s response during the pitch meeting. It was soon after that Triple H made a phone call to the New Zealand superstar, who told Ryan Satin that she was shocked by the news.
“I’ve never considered myself to be like a top guy. So the fact that I was on his mind in terms of that idea, and the fact that I was the first to call back after he got in control of the company … I was shocked.”
Dakota Kai has remained with Damage CTRL since her shocking return. She recently defeated Candice LeRae in singles action on Monday Night Raw.
