Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez have become the first-ever winners of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, defeating Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart during NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day!
After a back-and-forth war which saw the two teams compete to make history as the first-ever female winners of the Dusty Cup, Gonzalez and Kai eventually emerged victorious after the former threw Dakota onto Blackheart from the outside into the ring before hitting a One Arm Powerbomb to pick up the pinfall win.
By winning the tournament, the two not only win their very own trophy but also earn a title shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships – currently held by Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler in their second reign. Baszler herself would respond to the Kai & Gonzalez’s win, referencing how Kai was scared of her during her initial NXT Women’s Championship reign:

Kai and Gonzalez have found great success since joining forces at TakeOver: Portland last February after the latter helped Kai to defeat her former friend Tegan Nox. The two advanced to the finals of this year’s Dusty Classic with ease, defeating Aliyah & Jessi Kamea as well as Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter in the quarter and semifinals respectively.
Elsewhere on Vengeance Day, former IMPACT and NWA star Eli Drake made his NXT debut – proclaiming himself as LA Knight – and MSK won the 2021 Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in only their fourth NXT match!
