Former WWE Superstar Dakota Kai has revealed her new wrestling name as well as unveiling a new look as her non-compete clause expires.
Dakota Kai joined WWE after competing in the Mae Young Classic tournament in 2016. The New Zealander grew to be a key part of the black and gold brand’s women’s division, winning the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and holding the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship twice with Raquel Gonzalez.
To the surprise of many, Dakota Kai was released from her WWE contract towards the end of April 2022 along with several other stars on the developmental brand, including Stokely Hathaway who recently debuted for AEW at their Double Or Nothing show.
With WWE in her rearview mirror, at least for the moment, Dakota Kai has taken to social media to reveal her new wrestling name:
“In this very moment, I’m King. Kota.”

At the time of her release, Dakota Kai was said to have “seen the release coming” and also indicated to WWE that she was not planning on renewing her WWE contract.
Kai has not competed as King Kota yet but her revealing her new moniker coincides with her thirty-day non-compete clause expiring meaning she is free to wrestle wherever she wants.
