Dakota Kai made her return to WWE at SummerSlam 2022 and has recently revealed how she only found out about the plans for her return to the company the day before the show.
A number of former WWE stars have come back to the company following Vince McMahon’s retirement and Triple H taking over creative control last month.
The first of these returns was Dakota Kai, who was released from WWE in April 2022, but made a shock appearance at this year’s SummerSlam event, aligning herself with Bayley and IYO SKY.
Speaking with Today FM, Kai revealed how last-minute her plans to return were finalised:
“I literally got told about all this a day before. There had been a few conversations, but nothing official. I didn’t even know if I wanted to do this anymore. It was such a whirlwind. Me walking out with Bayley and IYO [SKY], it was difficult for me to process that but it was cool,”
The former NXT star went on to discuss her relationship with Triple H and the positive atmosphere he has cultivated backstage since taking over from Vince McMahon:
“I think me and Hunter (Triple H) – our relationship from before when I was in NXT, he knows me and he knows what I am capable of and It’s safe to say he is a big reason why I am part of everything now. I can’t really speak to what it [WWE locker room] was like before because I was in NXT, but under Hunter in NXT, it was very cool and very relaxed. He took a lot of ideas on board creatively and he was very open to anything we had to offer.
The environment feels like that again under his control. It’s a very positive environment right now and I’m loving the spontaneity of anything can happen – we haven’t had that type of feeling in WWE for a while.”
Kai is set to team with her DAMAGE CTRL stablemates, Bayley and IYO SKY, to take on the trio of Alexa Bliss, Asuka and Bianca Belair at the upcoming Clash At The Castle event on September 3rd.
