MMA star Cris Cyborg has claimed that she accepted an offer from an AEW star for a “closed door match” at her MMA gym.
Cyborg is nothing short of an MMA legend and a former World Ju-Jitsu Champion after claiming gold medals in the 74kg+ weight class in 2011 and 2012.
Cris Cyborg began her MMA career at the age of 19 in 2005 against fellow BJJ practitioner Erica Paes. Paes won the bout via submission but this remained the only loss of Cyborg’s MMA career for over a decade as the Brazillian star began to dominate in her field.
In 2008, Cyborg shared the cage with former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Shayna Baszler, with Baszler losing by TKO after a non-stop flurry of punches.
The following year Cris Cyborg won the Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Championship and in 2013 she became the inaugural Invicta FC Featherweight Champion. Four years later in her third fight for the UFC, Cyborg added to her haul of gold when she won the vacant UFC Women’s Featherweight Championship.
Cyborg held the title for almost 18 months before suffering just the second defeat of her career when she was knocked out in just 51 seconds by Amanda Nunes. Since then Cris Cyborg has gone on to fight for Bellator where in her first fight for that promotion she claimed the Bellator Women’s Featherweight World Championship – a title she still holds.
Taking to social media, Cyborg suggested that she had shared the mat with an AEW star, answering a challenge of sorts:
“Had a female @aewwrestler show up to my MMA gym this morning and challenge me to a closed door match…of course I accepted.”

Cyborg did not confirm who the AEW star was but the company is home to Thunder Rosa who has competed in an MMA cage previously. The former NWA Women’s Worlds Champion fought for Combate Americas in 2019, losing her one MMA bout by unanimous decision.
