In the wake of reports that Randy Orton is injured, his Hall of Fame father Bob Orton gave an update on his condition.
Randy Orton hasn’t wrestled or been seen on WWE television since the May 20th episode of Friday Night SmackDown. On the show, Orton teamed with Riddle to take on The Usos, as the two teams attempted to become WWE’s Undisputed Tag Team Champions. After a hard-fought encounter, it was The Usos who picked up the win, and all of the gold, after a little helping hand from Roman Reigns.
After the match, The Bloodline brutalized RK-Bro, leaving Orton laying after being hit with the ring steps, while Riddle was put through the announce table. Riddle has returned to WWE television and is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on June 17th, but Randy has remained absent.
While the injury might have seemed like it was a storyline reason for Orton to take time away from the company, a report from Fightful Select revealed that Orton could miss the rest of 2022 as he’s dealing with a legitimate back injury and that has been getting progressively worse.
WWE Hall of Famer ‘Cowboy’ Bob Orton spoke to Sportskeeda’s Bill Apter about his son’s condition, remining optimistic that despite him reportedly needing surgery, Randy will be able to overcome this injury and return to the squared circle.
“Oh, he’s got a little bit of a back problem. I think he’ll take care of everything, you know, with rehab and everything. After 20 years, you know, more than 20 years, wear and tear on the body is just, you know, too much.”
The news of Orton’s injury comes at an unfortunate time for WWE as Cody Rhodes is also sidelined after requiring surgery for a torn pectoral muscle.
Recent reports stated that Randy Orton was set to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam, but this injury places that bout in serious doubt.
