Could Sting Induct Lex Luger Into WWE Hall Of Fame Despite Being Under AEW Contract?

Sting and Lex Luger

A new report sheds light on WWE reaching out to Sting about Lex Luger’s WWE Hall of Fame induction.

On March 7th, news broke that Lex Luger was the latest name confirmed to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class. The announcement was made by Cody Rhodes, who surprised The Total Package at the DDP Performance Center.

Luger’s career was heavily entwined with Sting’s during their days in WCW, and many fans would love to see The Icon return to WWE to induct his friend into the Hall of Fame. However, despite being retired from in-ring action following his final match at AEW Revolution 2024, Sting remains under contract to All Elite Wrestling, leading to speculation as to whether or not he is contractually allowed to appear in WWE.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, The Icon is indeed on a Legends-type deal with AEW. The report states that it’s unknown whether or not he would require AEW approval for a WWE appearance, but that the sports entertainment giant is planning to reach out about inducting Luger if they haven’t already. Luger and those close to him indicated to WWE that Sting was the preference to perform the induction if possible.

Fightful Select also notes that The Icon originally planned for limited appearances in Las Vegas during WrestleMania week, but those plans have since expanded.

Lex Luger Named Sting & DDP As Picks To Induct Him Into WWE Hall Of Fame

Shortly after news of his Hall of Fame induction broke, Lex Luger spoke with Eric Bischoff on his 83 Weeks podcast, revealing that he’d like either DDP or Sting to induct him. He said:

“Oh, yeah. It’s real short, two guys. I’m trying to get two guys instead of one. I speak at recovery centers and at churches and stuff. I’m not good at scripted, like an iPad outline. I like to just speak from the heart and be extemporaneous, speak when I speak. So I’m like, well, guys, can I have…has anybody had two guys? Because I’ll probably want to do just a few minutes from my heart when I get up there. DDP and I have been trying to work on the walk. We’re not there yet.

So I go, we’re hoping, but man, if I could have my two guys up there with me, man, DDP on my shoulder kind of spotting me and Sting on the other, if it’s possible. I go, man, that would be amazing. So we shall see. If I have anything to say about that, that would be my pick. That would be, for me, the ultimate. That would be pretty cool, that would be amazing. For me, at least.” (h/t FIghtful)

Triple H is set to headline the 2025 WWE Hall of Fame, and Michelle McCool is also set to be inducted.
