It has been speculated that AEW could be looking to mimic WWE’s WrestleMania 39 and 40 booking of Cody Rhodes’ chase for the Undisputed WWE Championship with Will Ospreay in 2025.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer wrote about Ospreay potentially winning the AEW World Championship at All In at Wembley Stadium on August 25th.
Meltzer stated that he couldn’t see how the company could go with any other outcome unless they sold enough tickets to make it a viable option that they could run All In in Wembley a third year in a row and have Ospreay lose at the 2024 event to chase the AEW World Championship and win it at the 2025 event, like how Cody Rhodes lost his WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 39 to then go on to win it the following year.
The more than subtle tease of MJF vs. Ospreay on Dynamite led people to believe they would be doing an International title match at Wembley. Personally I think anything other than Ospreay winning the main title at Wembley makes no sense unless they end up with at least 60,000 tickets sold, which would be enough to risk booking the stadium for a third year in a row, and do another year chase before having Ospreay win there in 2025. But this isn’t WWE where they can book anything and it will work.
