Corey Graves Defends Booking Of Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns At WrestleMania

Corey Graves

Following his stunning return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, Cody Rhodes made no secret of his desire to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. His Father, WWE Hall Of Famer ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes, never claimed WWE’s top crown and when ‘The American Nightmare’ claimed victory in the Royal Rumble match in January to earn a shot at Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 it seemed that his destiny was set.

It came as a surprise to many when Reigns defeated Rhodes at ‘The Granddaddy Of Them All’ to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, but one WWE television personality has spoken out to defend the booking of the match.

Corey Graves defends WrestleMania 39 booking

Commenting during a recent episode of the After The Bell podcast, WWE commentator Corey Graves defended the decision for Reigns to retain and compared ‘The American Nightmare’ coming up short to struggles his Father faced during his legendary career:

“Look back to a person that was [name] dropped multiple times during the lead-up to Roman and Cody, that being ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes. Dusty became the common man because Dusty constantly came up short, usually due to no fault of his own. But people connected with that, people understand that. People live vicariously through WWE superstars, and there were a million people around the world in Cody’s boots with him.”

Graves, who commented throughout WrestleMania 39 with long term broadcast partner Michael Cole, noted that it was ok for fans to disagree with the decision but urged them to show patience and allow the story to fully be told:

“Whatever you take away from it, that’s fine. You’re not wrong. If you made a YouTube video cussing and swearing about how you’re done, you don’t like WWE anymore, good. Good, because you feel that emotion.. Just wait because it’s going to get better.”
