Controversial Statement By Charlotte Flair Fuels Troubled Relationship With WWE Fans

Charlotte Flair heads to the ring on WWE SmackDown

Charlotte Flair is viewed by many as one of the most controversial WWE Superstars of the modern era, even if she’s not the cause of said issues. Now one month inside her 13th year as a pro wrestler, Flair has made a decision on her role with the WWE Universe.

The Top Girl has been the subject of heated debates since arriving in WWE developmental on May 17, 2012. Ric Flair’s only daughter has been pushed from the start, racking up immense success as the final Divas Champion and the inaugural WWE (RAW) Women’s World Champion.

Flair returned from a lengthy injury hiatus to win the Royal Rumble, but could not dethrone Tiffany Stratton at WrestleMania 41, failed to qualify for Money In the Bank last month, and on Friday was unable to advance in the Queen of the Ring tournament. Despite the roadblock and uncertainty, along with a potential conspiracy, Flair has made up her mind on one important matter: the WWE fans.

Charlotte Flair Makes Decision On How To Handle WWE Fans

Charlotte Flair is just about fed up with the WWE Universe. The 39-year-old has had around five notable heel turns and five notable babyface turns since debuting in 2012. The turns, her success, her father, and other factors have led to a strained relationship with a majority of wrestling fans, according to Flair herself.

The Queen recently spoke with NFL Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman on his Games With Names podcast, and was asked how she gets into the mindset of being a heel. She quickly revealed her stance on interacting with fans at this point.

“Oh! How do, um… just breathing. [laughs] I don’t know… um, how do I say this… well, it’s like, when I try to be nice or I try to be endearing, [the fans] like, dislike, it more, so then they boo louder. I’m like, ‘Well, you know what? I’m not going to tell you I had a bad day. I’m going to make you hate me, and just say I’m the greatest, that I didn’t have to work for this,'” Flair said. Charlotte Flair continued:

“Well, I mean, being a legacy wrestler, and your dad’s Ric Flair, who doesn’t make it easy on you. And I’ve won a lot of matches, titles, had a lot of opportunities. [Edelman: people try to bring you down when you’re at the top, no matter what] Yeah, exactly! No matter what,” Flair said. [From 12:55 to 13:10]

Edelman then asked what’s more fun: being a heel or babyface. Flair made it clear that she has more fun being the villain, adding that you have to keep a cocky and heelish mindset to really pull it off. They also joked that Charlotte and Ric Flair will need “their own Hall of Fame wing” for being bad guys.
