Third generation star Tessa Blanchard married fellow professional wrestler Daga (real name Miguel Olivo) in August of 2020. The pair have been living in Mexico.
However, the couple took to Instagram today to issue a joint statement that they’ve decided to divorce after two and a half years of marriage. Tessa Blanchard and Daga insist they’re parting ways as friends and want what’s best for one another in the future, and they ask fans to respect their privacy at this difficult time.
“After considerable thought, reflection, and mixed emotions, we have decided to separate. We are two strong-willed, hard-working, and resilient people who hold nothing but love for each other. As painful as divorce is, we are thankful that no infidelity or other interests were involved in our decision, and we are parting as friends. We both want to see each other succeed and reach the pinnacle of success in our business and life.
We want to thank you all in advance for your support as we navigate the next chapter of our lives, and we ask that you respect our privacy and keep us in your prayers. Miguel and Tessa”
Tessa Blanchard Was The First Female IMPACT World Champion
At IMPACT Wrestling’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view in January of 2020, Tessa Blanchard defeated Sami Callihan to become the first woman in history to win the IMPACT World Championship. However, because she and soon-to-be-husband Daga resided in Mexico, she took a leave of absence from the company due to travel restrictions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Blanchard was stripped of the IMPACT World Championship after her contract was terminated the following June.
However, the star’s impressive in-ring accomplishments are often overshadowed by her continued courting of controversy throughout her career. In January of 2020, multiple female wrestlers accused Tessa Blanchard of racism and bullying backstage, with fellow wrestler Black Rose confirming that Blanchard spit in her face and used a racial slur. Though the story was corroborated by multiple wrestlers, Blanchard herself denies that the incident took place.
When it was announced in 2021 that Blanchard would be part of the relaunch of WOW Women of Wrestling, the star released a controversial t-shirt design that seemed an attempt to capitalize on her backstage heat. Though she’s since parted ways with WOW amidst a reported falling out, the design is still available.
