The first ever AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event took place on June 26th, 2022 at the United Center in Chicago.
The card featured a number of cross-promotion bouts and saw Jay White retain the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, and Jon Moxley win the AEW Interim World Title with a victory over Hiroshi Tanahashi. The show was viewed as a success by a huge number of fans who praised the variety of stars and quality of wrestling on display.
This popularity led to calls for the event to become an annual tradition. AEW President Tony Khan even hinted that this was a possibility he wished to explore.
It now appears that a second event under the Forbidden Door banner is in the works, although there are conflicting reports about when it will actually take place. According to Spectrum Cable’s listings, the event is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, 2023.
However, WRKD Wrestling has reported that the show will take place a day later on Sunday, June, 24th.
