As the 2023 edition of the Royal Rumble approaches, numerous competitors have already entered their names in the iconic match, hoping to secure a chance to compete for one of the company’s top championships.
The January 6th edition of SmackDown saw Ricochet defeat Top Dolla in a Royal Rumble qualifying match. Kofi Kingston declared himself for the match on that same episode, making them the first two entrants in the men’s match. Meanwhile, Liv Morgan was announced as the first female competitor to enter the fray.
On the January 9th episode of Raw, United States Champion Austin Theory declared his intention to enter the match and earn a chance at the main event of WrestleMania 39. He was interrupted by Seth Rollins, who revealed his knee injury to be a ruse. Rollins also declared himself for the match on January 28th, and at the end of the segment, Bobby Lashley made his return to the red brand for the first time in nearly a month.
After delivering a spear to Austin Theory, Lashley got on the microphone and declared that he would also be entering the Royal Rumble in San Antonio, looking to add another championship reign to his already impressive WWE resume.
Elsewhere on the January 9th episode of Raw, Candice LeRae was interviewed backstage about her husband Johnny Gargano’s recent injury before revealing that she would be entering the women’s Royal Rumble. However, she was interrupted by Rhea Ripley, who said LeRae was delusional if she believed she could earn her way to the main event of WrestleMania. Ripley also entered herself in the match.
Later in the night, Rhea Ripley was able to defeat Candice LeRae in singles action, receiving ringside support from her fellow Judgment Day members.
