Cody Rhodes has revealed that he has the championship belt that his father fought over that he referenced on Raw and reveals which AEW star gifted him the title.

Cody Rhodes made his first appearance on Raw on Monday night in six years after he made his sensational return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 as the surprise opponent for Seth ‘Freaking’ Rollins.

Rhodes opened Raw by discussing his future and his plans back in WWE as he sets out to do something that his father, the inimitable Dusty Rhodes never did in his illustrious career – win the WWE Championship.

The American Nightmare discussed how Dusty had once wrestled for the title, despite spending most of his career affiliated with the NWA, defeating then-champion Superstar Billy Graham via count-out but not winning the championship.

Speaking to Variety, Cody Rhodes revealed that the title belt his father was seen holding in the picture he showed on Raw is now in his possession thanks to a somewhat unlikely source:

“I’m excited to bring the WWWF championship belt that I acquired a few months ago, the one that Superstar and Dusty fought over. I’m excited to carry that in my bag.”

“Believe it or not — I bet you he doesn’t want me to say his name, but it’s funny. Dan Lambert. He handed it to me for no money and said “I thought it should belong to you.”

Dan Lambert is the head of American Top Team and can be seen on AEW television standing side by side with Ethan Page and the current TNT Champion Scorpio Sky. Lambert was in the ring when Brandi Rhodes made what turned out to be her last AEW appearance when she was taken out by Paige VanZant.
