Cody Rhodes will be part of NXT The Great American Bash.
It’s been confirmed by NXT boss Shawn Michaels that Cody Rhodes will narrate the introduction to NXT’s next Premium Live Event on July 30th. The move will raise a smile for long-time fans given the fact it was the American Nightmare’s father Dusty Rhodes who came up with the Great American Bash name back in 1985.
The banner was initially utilsed by Jim Crockett Promotions under the NWA. The name was used regularly by WCW throughout the 1990s but disappeared following the 2000 edition with the company itself being purchased by WWE in early 2001. However, it was revived in 2004 by WWE and used seven times, before being brought back a second time in NXT in 2020.
The 2023 edition of the event will be headlined by the NXT Championship match between Carmelo Hayes and Ilja Dragunov. Elsewhere, Gable Steveson will make his in-ring debut when he takes on Baron Corbin. Meanwhile, Tiffany Stratton will put her NXT Women’s Title on the line against Thea Hail in a Submission Match.
Has Cody Rhodes Been In NXT Before?
The Great American Bash won’t be the first time that Cody Rhodes has appeared in NXT, although it will be the first time he’s worked with WWE’s third brand in more than a decade.
Back when NXT was a competitive reality television show, Rhodes appeared as one of the “pros” in season two in 2010. The star was partnered with Husky Harris who went on to be known as Bray Wyatt.
Cody Rhodes will be back in action at SummerSlam when he takes on Brock Lesnar for a third time.
