In a move that comes as somewhat of a surprise, Cody Rhodes will challenge Theory for his US Championship on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
At WrestleMania Backlash, Cody Rhodes faced Seth Rollins in a rematch from WrestleMania 38, where Cody was revealed to be Vince McMahon’s hand-picked opponent for Rollins. Once again, Cody Rhodes emerged victorious from the bout when he was able to reverse Rollins’ attempt at a pinfall with a handful of tights.
Theory (formerly known as Austin Theory) didn’t have a challenger for his United States Championship at WrestleMania Backlash, and most recently competed on the May 2nd episode of Monday Night Raw where he teamed with The Miz to defeat Mustafa Ali in a handicap match.
While Ali has been angling for a United States Championship match since making his surprise return on April 25th, WWE made the surprising announcement today that Cody Rhodes will be challenging Theory on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw. While Cody has held the Intercontinental Championship in the past, he has never been the United States Champion in WWE, and he’s looking to add that title to his list of accolades.
