Cody Rhodes Takes Aim At WWE And More, Challenges Sammy Guevara

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has returned to AEW Dynamite, firing shots at almost the entire wrestling world in the process!

It has been one hell of a start to 2022 for Cody Rhodes. First he had to pull out of a scheduled TNT Title defence against Sammy Guevara at Battle of the Belts, with an Interim Champion crowned in his absence. This was followed by the news that his deal with AEW expired at the tail end of 2021 and he is currently working without a contract.

While it had already been announced that Rhodes would be returning to television on January 19th, no one could have predicted the promo that he delivered.

After making his way to ringside, Rhodes set up a ladder in the middle of the ring, before proceeding to tear into the entire wrestling industry. He opened by asking the fans what they wanted to talk about. The TNT Champion then referenced CM Punk’s famous ‘Pipe Bomb’ promo, saying that it was the start of the revolution.

Rhodes said that while Punk wasn’t able to achieve everything he laid out in his promo, he did, carrying the industry in his absence, adding that he won’t turn heel because the fans cheered for him when he needed it the most. Furthermore, before there was a ‘Forbidden Door,’ he built it.

As the champion got more and more fired up he took aim at Brody King, WWE and said he was tired of seeing the Young Bucks defeat former NXT talent.

“I know RedDragon graduated top of hip-toss class, but I don’t need to see the Buck’s defeat developmental again.”

“I know we’re not in the business of renaming people Gunther McGillibuddy, but showing up in AEW and calling yourself Brody/Brodie takes balls.”

Just when fans thought he was done, Cody Rhodes then turned his attention to Interim TNT Champion Sammy Guevara but not before referencing his own contract status. Rhodes said that he and Guevara had been sent a contract by Tony Khan – even if it wasn’t the contract that he wanted.

The TNT Champion closed by saying that AEW don’t have secondary titles, before challenging Guevara to a unification ladder match at the upcoming Beach Break edition of Dynamite.

The challenge was later accepted by the Spanish God.
