Cody Rhodes Reportedly Still Set For WrestleMania

Cody Rhodes

All eyes were on Monday Night Raw in Jacksonville with many expecting the WWE debut of Cody Rhodes to take place, but he was very much conspicuous by his absence.

WWE continued their storyline of Seth “Freaking” Rollins being left off of WrestleMania 38 on Raw, with The Visionary resorting to challenging his friend Kevin Owens over who gets to appear on The Grandest Stage Of Them All with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Owens defeated Rollins in the night’s main event with the former WWE Champion now staring at an empty dance card come the 2nd and 3rd of April. However, Dave Meltzer speaking Wrestling Observer Radio has reported that Cody Rhodes is coming to WWE and he will be Rollins opponent by the time WWE rolls into the AT&T Stadium in Dallas:

“Everyone there is [under the impression Cody is joining WWE]. The impression is Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins is the WrestleMania match. And when I watched the show – the one thing that was kind of interesting that would have thrown people off, remember we talked about Damian Priest not doing The Reckoning because they thought Cody was coming in, but he definitely did it tonight when he beat Finn Balor with that move. So maybe that was a little thing to throw people off scent so to speak.”

Meltzer then suggested WWE repeat what they did at WrestleMania 33 when The Hardy Boyz returned to the company. Although rumours persisted, there was no confirmation that Matt and Jeff Hardy were set to make their WWE return until they were announced at WrestleMania itself:

“He’s coming, I mean that’s it. He’s wrestling Seth at WrestleMania unless something changes and I sure watched this not thinking anything’s changing. How they do it – I think they may end up doing The Hardyz thing where you know they’re coming but they don’t announce it and they get the big pop, they just show up the day of the show. They may be doing that one.”

“[…] I think it’s pretty obvious what’s going on. When it’s gonna be announced or even if it’s gonna be announced but it’s a big part of the show now, Seth Rollins and WrestleMania.”

It should be noted that Seth Rollins has recently worked live events with Damian Priest and Finn Balor in Triple Threat bouts for the United States Championship so there is a possibility he could be inserted into that program on television if Rhodes’ WrestleMania appearance turns out to be smoke and mirrors.
