Cody Rhodes Says This AEW Star Was A Major Influence On His Career

Cody Rhodes Reflects On Important UK Moment In His Career Following 2016 WWE Exit

Cody Rhodes has words of thanks for one AEW star.

After decades in WWE as The Big Show, Paul Wight signed with All Elite Wrestling in February of 2021. The star has mostly been used in a broadcast role, but has stepped in the ring on a handful of occasions.

Speaking in a recent interview with Adrian Hernandez, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes opened up about working with The Big Show in WWE. The two men had an extended feud involving the Intercontinental Championship in 2012, and in the interview, Rhodes was asked about their Extreme Rules match that ended with Big Show losing as he accidentally stepped off the apron through a table.

“It’s fun to pull back the curtain on this one now because I do think this person deserves credit for it and didn’t get any ’cause so many people thought, ‘Oh, maybe that wasn’t supposed to happen’ — the Big Show. Big Show was so influential in my career and doesn’t even realize it because I was going through it when I was going up against him and, man, I’m lucky to have had that experience with him.

That was his idea, Michael Hayes was right there to say, ‘Yep, let’s do it,’ and it ended up being a very fun moment.” (h/t WrestlingInc)

JBL Compared Cody Rhodes To John Cena

Speaking on a recent edition of Something To Wrestle, WWE Hall of Famer JBL compared Cody Rhodes’ current run to that of John Cena, who reigned atop WWE for well over a decade.

“You don’t see that in a lot of people. You don’t see that. I think Cody Rhodes has understood what being the main guy is, very well, and I think he’s done an incredible job. I think he’s done a wonderful job. The workload that he’s under is so admirable. I mean, it’s really, he’s like Cena, the guy never stops.

He [Cody Rhodes] understands how important it is, when you’re the lead face, you got to put people in seats, put cash in the company’s pockets. I think Cody does a terrific job with it. Cena did a terrific job with it. There’s so many people that did, but there’s a lot of champions in there, between that, that never really felt that’s a good point.” (h/t Sportskeeda)

In recent news, Cody Rhodes has explained why he believes Kevin Owens is frustrated with him.
