Cody Rhodes Reacts To Roman Reigns WWE SummerSlam Return; Elaborates On Their “Unique Relationship”

Roman Reigns offers hand to Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has given his thoughts on the much-anticipated return of Roman Reigns at WWE SummerSlam.

The main event of SummerSlam saw Cody Rhodes defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa in a Bloodline Rules match. The bout saw interference from every member of Sikoa’s version of The Bloodline as well as Rhodes’ allies Randy Orton and Kevin Owens.

As the bout descended into chaos, Roman Reigns made his triumphant return to WWE and immediately targetted Sikoa, taking him out with a Superman Punch and a Spear, handing Rhodes the victory as The American Nightmare stared him down.

On the SummerSlam post-show, Rhodes admitted he owed The Original Tribal Chief for his assistance and explained the pair’s “unique” relationship.

“I don’t want to fill the room with positive platitudes and hot air about the real ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns returning. But without a doubt, that probably would have gone a different way; I probably wouldn’t be sitting here with the North Star of the industry had it not been for Roman Reigns.

“So he’s certainly… I’ve got quite a list of people who I owe one. I might owe him more than one. Again, no love lost. That’s as much a shoot as it gets. There’s a unique relationship, I suppose. I haven’t seen or spoken to him since WrestleMania. I think the WWE fans, wrestling fans, the WWE Universe, they wanted him, and SummerSlam delivered and gave him, and that I’m always very happy about.”

Will Cody Rhodes Give Roman Reigns A Rematch?

At WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes was the one to end The Head of the Table’s historic reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. With his return, Rhodes is not only willing to grant the long-absent star a rematch, but says it “has to” happen.

“Certainly, Roman Reigns is entitled to not just a rematch; I mean, Roman Reigns held this title for so long, that match, it has to happen. It’s one of those where, to a degree, you’re not supposed to say this when you’re a babyface, but it’s rather scary. I’ve been in there twice with him, and brother hits hard. So, the idea of that is there, too. I don’t know if anyone saw it, but I was tapping the title because I know there’s a third one somewhere down the line. I know I’m not his friend. He didn’t do that for me. He did that because of what’s happened with The Bloodline and Solo. I think that’s something to stay tuned for, probably on SmackDown, for a sense of what happens with The Bloodline.

“The Bloodline has been the anchor of WWE for some time, and what happens next, not just with Solo, not just with Roman, but Jacob Fatu, who is, as we all can see, there’s something unbelievable. I don’t have to like him to tell you that there’s something special there, but there’s a lot of match options that are in front of us and that’s for [Triple H] to kind of decide what happens next. I’m always ready.”
