A new report has provided a positive update on Cody Rhodes’ return to wrestling with the star said to be working on getting in-ring clearance.
Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 where he was the surprise opponent for Seth Rollins – this came just weeks after he and his Brandi announced their shock exits from AEW. The American Nightmare and Brandi had been a big part of the formation of AEW in 2019 alongside The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and company owner Tony Khan.
But returning to the company he left in 2016 turned into a reality and Cody Rhodes defeated Rollins on his first night back. The two men went on to compete again at WrestleMania Backlash with the same result. A third match – this time to take place inside Hell In A Cell was set – but a serious injury to Rhodes almost put paid to that.
While training ahead of the bout, Rhodes suffered a torn pectoral muscle, but rather than pull out of the match, he worked through the injury. When he removed his ring jacket after his entrance, there were audible gasps from the crowd as he revealed a massive bruise across his chest and arm. Despite the injury, Rhodes took his third victory over Rollins before heading into surgery soon after.
Cody Rhodes on his way back to action
Now, a new report in Fightful Select has indicated that Rhodes is actively seeking to get in-ring clearance for his return and has been spotted at the Performance Centre in recent weeks.
Rhodes was seemingly able to choose who helped him prepare for his return and picked NXT stars Carmello Hayes and Joe Gacy to work with him.
The report also notes that Cody Rhodes is part of the plans for WrestleMania 39, and has been for several months now.
