Cody Rhodes Open To Match With John Cena

Cody Rhodes (as Stardust) wrestling John Cena

“The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes has expressed an interest in stepping into the ring with John Cena one more time.

In a rare Reddit AMA, Rhodes was asked by u/JustALeafEater quite simply: “are you gonna wrestle John Cena?”

Cody Rhodes responded to the question, stating that he has already spoken with John Cena about the possibility of wrestling again.

“I asked John if he does one more…to consider that match. If not though, I’m blessed to have been under his learning tree and shared a ring with him in the past.”

Following the triumph of his acting endeavors, John Cena’s appearances in the wrestling realm have dwindled in frequency.

In the last two years, he has only wrestled twice; once at WrestleMania 38 against Austin Theory, and once on the 30th of December, 2022 SmackDown, teaming with Kevin Owens to take on Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn.

According to cagematch.net, Rhodes and Cena have shared a ring upwards of 76 times, so they are certainly no strangers.

The last time they wrestled was on the 6th of April, 2015. On this show, US Champion John Cena defended his title against Stardust, an alter ego of Cody Rhodes. Cena would win the match in just over thirteen minutes.

Is Cody Rhodes Stardust?

Between 2014 and 2016, Cody Rhodes played a character called “Stardust” on WWE television. The gimmick was an ode to his brother Goldust, who was also on the roster then.

Ultimately, Rhodes was frustrated by the creative surrounding the character, stating “Stardust is the reason I left” in an interview with Logan Paul earlier this year.

To raise money for a good cause, Rhodes’ robe that he wore for his Night of Champions match is currently up for auction.
