Cody Rhodes Hopes This Country Will Host A Major WWE Show Soon

Cody Rhodes remains optimistic that a country in Europe will present a WWE PLE in the near future.

2024 has seen the company expand its international reach more than ever before. While various international markets such as Australia, the UK and Saudi Arabia all saw the return of major shows, France made the case for more shows to be hosted in the country with an incredibly hot crowd for Backlash and fans are also expecting to see a lively crowd in Germany for Bash in Berlin on August 31st.

Prior to Backlash in France, Rhodes competed at a live event in Bologna, Italy. Speaking with Gabby LaSpisa on Gabby AF, Rhodes noted that while he has no power in the decision-making process, Italy would be a great crowd for a PLE:

“I really hope that Italy gets a WWE….we did a show in Italy, a live event. They were, if people saw Scotland, Scotland was outrageous. If people saw France, France was outrageous. I wish people got to see what Italy was like. I didn’t know what we were walking into. I didn’t even know if we were on TV in Italy. They would be a great place for a PLE. I make no decisions and can’t get anything done, but that was a really cool experience.”

While Italy has never hosted a PPV/PLE, the city of Milan hosted an episode of Raw in April 2007. The episode is best remembered for the debut of Santino Marella, who was chosen as a “fan” to challenge Umaga for the Intercontinental Championship. Thanks to the help of Bobby Lashley, Marella was able to defeat The Samoan Bulldozer in his debut performance to capture the title.
