Cody Rhodes Set For Imminent WWE Return

With shockwaves still reverberating in the wrestling world surrounding Cody Rhodes’ AEW exit, a new report suggests he could begin work with WWE as soon as this weekend.

The American Nightmare had been working for AEW as a free agent in recent months but few could have predicted that one of the founding fathers of the upstart company was ever going to walk away. But on the 15th of February, that’s exactly what happened when statements were released revealing that both Cody and Brandi Rhodes were no longer All Elite.

Stories suggested that Rhodes could make a return to WWE, the company he previously had a nine-year stint with that ended in 2016. With reports of a huge contract on the table and major plans in place, the likelihood of Cody Rhodes returning to the company where he first made his name is looking increasingly likely.

Now Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated has shed more light on Cody Rhodes’ status and offered an insight into what may have led to the three-time TNT Champion’s AEW exit:

“One key factor that led to this exit was losing all responsibilities involving booking. That is a role where [Tony] Khan, who is the head of creative, has taken full rein.”

As for returning to WWE, Barrasso says there is potential for Rhodes to begin filming for the company as soon as this weekend, but equally he could be a perfect post-WrestleMania surprise:

“Every indication is that his next destination is WWE, potentially even as soon as filming segments at the Performance Center this weekend. And while Rhodes would add value to this year’s WrestleMania, he would also be a major reveal on the Raw immediately following ’Mania.”
