According to a new report, Cody Rhodes has been working without a contract with AEW since the end of 2021.

Ahead of his return to AEW Dynamite on January 19th, it has been reported that current TNT Champion Cody Rhodes is a free agent.

The report from Fightful Select notes that Rhodes’ contract expired at the end of 2021. As such Executive Vice President Rhodes, is currently working without a contract. The report adds that Fightful have reached out to Rhodes but he is yet to comment. For their part, AEW officials said that they were not willing to discuss contracts.

Back in December, Rhodes addressed his future, commenting that he saw himself with AEW. He added that he was “very optimistic” about what the future held. In the interview, Rhodes also talked up his relation with the company’s other EVP’s, explaining that they all had “admiration” for one another. He closed by saying that he couldn’t see himself anywhere else.

Cody Rhodes is set to make his return to AEW television on the upcoming episode of Dynamite. The former WWE star has been absent since a special Christmas Night edition of Rampage where he defeated Sammy Guevara to become three-time TNT Champion.

After his victory, a rematch was quickly scheduled for Battle of the Belts. However, just 24-hours before he was due to be in the ring, Rhodes was pulled from the match. No specific reason for the move was given, merely that Rhodes wasn’t medically cleared to compete.

Rhodes himself, later explained that he had to miss the show as he and his wife Brandi were isolating with a family member who had tested positive for COVID-19.
