Cody Rhodes has described Paul Heyman as the “Martin Scorsese” of the Bloodline story.
Cody Rhodes first became involved in the Bloodline storyline when he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39 last year. Since then, Rhodes has been a key figure in the saga, alongside the likes of Reigns, Jimmy and Jey Uso, Solo Sikoa and The Rock. However, Rhodes feels the man truly responsible for the success of the Bloodline storyline is Paul Heyman, who he describes as “the Martin Scorsese behind it all”.
Speaking on Watch Fox 57 News, Cody Rhodes was asked about his involvement in the Bloodline story, and the role he plays:
“I’m always of the thought that my point in the story was just to be the guy who beats them. I know that sounds really arrogant. But I thought maybe that’s just what I do. With Solo Sikoa who will be there tonight, of course Roman Reigns will be there tonight.”
Rhodes went on to laud Paul Heyman as the true visionary behind the story, comparing him to the Goodfellas director:
“But I’d say from kind of the more behind-the-curtain aspect that when all is said and done and people look at how unbelievable that story has been over the years – what it’s done for WWE and WWE’s business – Mr. Paul Heyman should probably be considered kind of the Martin Scorsese behind it all. He’s really a fascinating unique individual and has a sense of what the audience may want and they don’t even know they want it. Just super genius.”
As well as his on-screen work as Reigns’ manager, Heyman has played a big part in deciding creative decisions for Reigns, and has been referred to as ‘The Wiseman’ and the ‘Special Counsel’ since aligning with Reigns back in August 2020. Despite occasional blips in their relationship – including a short-lived reunion with Brock Lesnar – the pair grew from strength to strength throughout Reigns’ record-breaking 1,316 day title run.
During the same interview, Cody Rhodes shared his daughter’s heart-warming reaction to his WWE career.
