Cody Rhodes has claimed that he returned to WWE for one very simple reason, he wants to prove he’s the best in the world.
Cody Rhodes made a shocking return to WWE at this year’s WrestleMania defeating Seth Rollins. The following night on Raw he explained that he intended to go after the WWE Championship for his father, who had never won it.
As the American Nightmare recovers from a major pectoral injury, he recently stated why he chose to return after years of being away from WWE.
On a recent episode of Chevrolet Trucks’ “Grit and Glory” show, Rhodes drove around in a Chevy Silverado with Montez Ford and was asked outright why he returned. The American Nightmare gave what he called a somewhat “arrogant” answer.
He said that “for two-three years, nobody’s been able to touch [him]” in the ring, but he also admitted the only way he could say that out loud was by having a chip on his shoulder. That chip, as it turns out, continues to be fulfilling his quest of becoming WWE Champion. The American Nightmare hoped that his answer would light a fire in everyone who believes they, too, are the best in the world.
“If I’m telling you ‘I’m the best,’ and you have pride in what you do, you should be saying ‘nah, I’m the best.’”

Rhodes sustained a serious pectoral injury in the lead up to his Hell In A Cell match against Seth Rollins, but despite the injury, not only wrestled but lasted over 20 minutes. After appearing on Raw the following night, the former AEW star headed off to have surgery.
WWE have since stated that he is expected to be out for around nine months, despite this he remains a heavy favourite to win the 2023 Royal Rumble match.
