Cody Rhodes Almost Landed Match With WWE Legend At WrestleMania 39

Cody Rhodes

At WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes takes on Roman Reigns in what is the biggest match of his career.

The American Nightmare returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 with one goal. To become WWE Champion. While it’s a title he has never held, it is also a championship that eluded his illustrious father the American Dream Dusty Rhodes.

After triumphing against Seth Rollins, Rhodes suffered a major setback thanks to a serious pectoral injury but returned to claim victory in the men’s Royal Rumble match in January. This put him on a collision course with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and a date with destiny.

However, although it has been revealed that WWE was planning the Reigns vs. Rhodes showdown as far back as August, it wasn’t the only idea on the table. A new report via Fightful Select has claimed that some within WWE were pushing for Rhodes to face John Cena. A match also considered for Logan Paul. However, the YouTube star will be taking on Seth Rollins at the show, while Cena meets Austin Theory.

Cody Rhodes Admits He “Can’t Stand” Top WWE Star

Speaking ahead of his clash with Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes opened up about his rivalry with Seth Rollins. While the pair battled in a widely-praises series of matches on television, Rhodes revealed that even backstage the pair “can’t stand” one another. He added that the closest he has ever come to a backstage fight was with The Visionary.

Rhodes was most recently in action on the March 27th episode of Raw where he defeated Solo Sikoa.
