Cody Rhodes Admits He Was “Embarrassed & Dejected” Heading Into Major WWE Match

Cody Rhodes Admits He Was

Cody Rhodes has given an insight into his mindset ahead of an important WWE match.

Having previously beaten Seth Rollins in his return match at WrestleMania 38 and at Backlash, the rivalry was set to culminate at Hell in a Cell inside the steel structure. While many were looking forward to the encounter, it was revealed ahead of time that The American Nightmare had torn his pec while training, casting doubt on whether or not the match would take place.

Instead of being postponed or Rollins being given a different opponent at short notice, Rhodes was permitted to compete in the match. The match itself was incredibly well received by fans and critics and was viewed by many as the match that cemented Rhodes as a top star in WWE following his return.

Despite the match receiving high praise, Rhodes had a different perspective. Looking back at the match on social media 2 years later, the Undisputed Champion admitted he was “embarrassed and dejected” on that night:

I didn’t win this match, Chicago won it for me I was so embarrassed and dejected, nothing in the eyes and just enough left in the tank for one dance Just the clips are wild enough for me

Rhodes took time away to undergo surgery after this match and did not return until the 2023 Royal Rumble, which he won from the number 30 position.
