Cody Rhodes Admits Behind The Scenes Rivalry With Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes face off

Cody Rhodes has reflected on the crowded main event scene in WWE and the challenge of being at the top of the card following the return of Roman Reigns.

At WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes finally reached the top of WWE when he defeated Roman Reigns to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. However, although he is now widely seen as the face of the company, he has multiple challengers to his position, not least Reigns himself, who returned to the company at SummerSlam.

After another successful defence at Bash In Berlin, at the post-show, Rhodes was asked about his position on the card now that Reigns was back. The American Nightmare admitted there is a challenge, but he’s well-prepared for it.

“I think if I’m speaking honestly, they’re not insecurities and they’re not concerns, but I’d be naive to not acknowledge the challenge.

“I love this, and maybe one of the things – I had a lifetime of experience to get ready for this – that’s the biggest challenge in front of me in terms of what’s the new task for me?”

Rhodes went on to describe the special feeling of being a “poster boy” for WWE, but says he is aware there are other stars vying for that role.

“The idea of being a poster boy at all – my gosh, that’s an amazing feeling. That’s special. It will end at some point. But I will certainly put up every bit of a fight. And it’s not just the OTC, it’s not just Roman Reigns. This is John Cena’s farewell run.

“I am up there in very rare air with special characters. People like CM Punk. The way I would put it – it’s a great problem to have for WWE. And I think both the man you mentioned and myself, we like that.”

When it comes to Reigns, he says they have “pitted themselves against each other” not only onscreen but behind the scenes as well.

“We have pitted ourselves against each other not just at WrestleMania in the main event, but in every aspect behind the scenes too. And not in a dishonest way – in an honest way. Better man’s gonna win. And that’s a good problem to have.”

Cody Rhodes Addresses Relationship With Kevin Owens Following WWE Bash In Berlin

In an exclusive interview with Inside The Ropes, Cody Rhodes discussed the original plan for WrestleMania 40.
