Cody Rhodes has jokingly revealed that he pitched an idea that would have seen his seven-month-old daughter win the TBS Championship.
Ahead of his shock departure from AEW, Cody Rhodes has revealed that he pitched one insane idea purely to “set the internet on the fire.”
Appearing on AEW Unrestricted, Rhodes explained that he pitched for his daughter to win the newly created TBS Championship. As Liberty is only seven-months-old, Rhodes said that he would have held the title for 18 years until she old enough to claim it.
“Here was my idea for the TBS Championship. I thought I could make Libby [Cody’s daughter Liberty] the champ, but because she’s not of age, I would hold the belt for 18 years. That was the idea and I thought it would really set the internet on fire. That idea didn’t go far,”
The TBS Championship was introduced in late 2021 as a secondary title in AEW’s women’s division. Following a hard-fought tournament, Jade Cargill was crowned the first ever TBS Champion in January 2022. Cargill is currently undefeated, and most recently defended her title against AQA on the February 9th episode of Dynamite.
On February 15th, Cody and Brandi Rhodes announced that they have left AEW. The couple had been with the company since it’s inception, with Cody serving as Executive Vice President and Brandi as Chief Brand Officer.
In a statement confirming the news, AEW President Tony Khan thanked the pair for their hard work and commitment, adding that he has “immense respect and appreciation” for the stars.
Back in January it was reported that Cody Rhodes was working without a contract and was technically a free agent. The report explained that his deal with AEW had expired at the end of 2021.
It has since been suggested that Rhodes’ team and WWE have been in contact, and that the company have big plans for their former star should he decide to return.
