Cody Rhodes has revealed the inspiration behind dying his hair black upon his return to All Elite Wrestling following the brutal attack by Mr. Brodie Lee.
After losing the AEW TNT Championship to ‘The Exalted One’ on August 22, Rhodes disappeared from television in order to film a new project for Turner Network Television. Upon his return several weeks later, Rhodes sported a new jet black hairstyle.
Though the colour soon change back to bleached blonde, the star has recently opened up about the lost meaning of his fleeting new look and the homage he attempted to pay to the ‘Death of Superman’ comic series in which the hero returned with a new look.
Speaking to Outside The Ring With Lexi Nair, the leader of The Nightmare Family detailed his tribute:
“Blondes have more fun. Nobody got it when I dyed my hair black. It was a play on Death of Superman. He had the mullet, he had a change, a different outfit. Nobody got it.”
Cody’s love of ‘The Man of Steel’ can also be seen in the current American Nightmare logo, which the star has also styled on that of the Death of Superman.
Currently on AEW television, Cody is embroiled in a feud with Team Taz and has been touted to be involved with NBA star Shaq, who not only challenged the former AEW TNT Champion via Jade Cargill, but who will appear on the December 16 Dynamite.
