Ever since the sport of professional wrestling came into being it has consistently proven that nothing is impossible. In the case of CM Punk, that means a return to the company whose Executive Vice Presidents he trashed in a press conference while sitting feet from his boss.
It is often said in wrestling that there isn’t a bridge that can’t be mended if there is money to be made, and it appears that Punk has been busy with his toolbox.
In the hours following AEW All Out on September 4th, 2022, it seemed impossible that CM Punk would ever feature in AEW again. In fact, many wondered whether he was done with wrestling altogether. No matter the rights and wrongs of the situation, and who fans have chosen to support since, Punk called out Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Hangman Adam Page, and Colt Cabana at the post-show media scrum before getting into a fight with Omega and the Bucks backstage.
This saw suspensions handed out while an investigation was launched and legal proceedings began, the ramifications of which are still being felt today.
However, despite the bad blood, rumours, and innuendo, it has been widely reported that CM Punk will return to AEW within weeks. It is believed that Punk will make his return on the debut episode of new the new Saturday night show Collision at the United Center on June 17th. The event will be known as “The Second Coming” and just so happens to take place in the same building where Punk made his AEW debut.
While there has been no official comment regarding Punk or Collison, it appears that this is about to change. The new show is expected to be announced at the Warner Bros Discovery upfronts on May 17th, and it has now been reported that news on Punk’s future is coming too.
Posting on social media, Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast noted:
“Expect CM Punk’s return to AEW to be announced in the coming days.”
CM Punk Has “A Lot Of Supporters” In AEW
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nick Hausman for Inside The Ropes, former WWE Superstar Mojo Rawley discussed the situation around Punk and his impending comeback. Interestingly, Rawley noted that Punk has a lot of support within AEW, despite reports to the contrary.
