A WWE Hall of Famer has recalled an infamous storyline with CM Punk and says he nearly went into business for himself with the current AEW World Champion.
The second Summer of Punk came to WWE in 2011 with CM Punk capturing the WWE Championship from John Cena in one of the biggest title matches of all time at Money In The Bank.
However, Punk’s summer came to a premature end at SummerSlam after he defeated John Cena to reaffirm his position as Undisputed WWE Champion in the unlikeliest of ways. After Punk’s victory, he was attacked by Kevin Nash who delivered a Jackknife Powerbomb that allowed Alberto Del Rio to cash in his Money In The Bank contract and win Punk’s title.
Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash discussed what happened next in the bizarre feud with Punk and how he wanted to take matters into his own hands when CM Punk only verbally confronted him after being cost the WWE Championship:
“I swear to you I thought I was one and done. They asked me to come out, stick him, and be gone. So the next show this is what he does the laugh out loud ‘My sister’s just text me laugh out loud. You know, I thought he was dead.’ I have no verbiage, I’m told not to say anything.”
“So as soon as he says that, I’m thinking to myself okay, I cost you the world title, and you come down and f*cking you come through the f*cking curtain, but you stand f*cking 250 feet away from me? Like you don’t come down and attack me, you verbally attacked me. I just cost you the f*cking world title.”
“I’m thinking of going to myself, if me and Paul didn’t have the relationship that we had, and I know that Paul was instrumental in bringing me back. And it’s always nice to f*cking, I don’t care who you are, what you’re doing, it’s always nice to put the pinstripes on. It’s always nice to be a Yank.”
“So I say to myself, don’t do it because I think to myself like, what do I say? You know what? I’m scripted not to say anything. But you know what? I really don’t care. I mean, I really don’t care and start walking out of the ring. Because you know what? If it was me, I would have come down here because you cost me the world title, but obviously, you’re a bitch.”
“I said, so if this was real life, I’d be trading your ass for cigarettes in prison. And then just walk up there and say, when I get up here, I said I’m gonna smack you in the face as hard as I can. So know that. I mean, granted, I mean, my old ass is gonna take some time clickety click clickety click you know the old f*ucking knees and everything else.”
“But when I get up there I’m going to smack in the f*cking [face]. So either you f*cking apologise to Mr. Nash or I’m gonna smack you in the f*cking mouth, or we can go, but I don’t think any of the last two are going to work out for you very well.”
Ultimately, Kevin Nash decided to go against his instincts and not potentially cost himself future work with WWE:
“And I thought to myself like after all these years in the business that’s exactly what you should do is be completely unprofessional. Be a f*cking douchebag, never go in the Hall of Fame because you f*cking went into business for yourself. I’m just like, f*ck him it’s just f*cking pro wrestling.”
